Tesco Stores Plc. Projects: Tesco is currently going through a period of massive overseas expansion, including several new hypermarkets in Central Europe and investigations into the possibilities of building superstores in China and Japan. As part of a new in-store pharmaceutical programme it is also trying to recruit graduate pharmacists[15]. More Tesco pharmacies will lead to yet more high street closures. In October 2001 Tesco announced plans to open eight new stores in the Midlands, which it says will create 3,500 new jobs [16].
