RESISTING THE CORPORATIONS
Aldermaston blockaded
Some 300 activists turned up for the Big Blockade of the Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), near Reading, to mark the UN Disarmament Week (24-30 October) and disrupt work on Trident warheads and their successors.
Hundreds of peace campaigners from various countries, including Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France converged on Aldermaston for the biggest day of direct action against Trident in the UK since the blockade of the Faslane naval base in Scotland in October 2007. Protesters managed to block access to several gates by lying in the road attached together with super-glue, concrete blocks and arm tubes. They also blocked the A340. The protest was organised by Trident Ploughshares and supported by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Block the Builders and the Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp.
