'With this D-lock, I thee wed'

Around 100 people gathered on 19 September at a Shell petrol station in Ludlow, Shropshire, to celebrate a very special 'wedding' and take a little direct action at the same time.

The forecourt of the station was blocked off with banners and the pumps were switched off and locked up. The 'bride' and 'groom', along with friends and family, wore black, green and purple to symbolise their resistance to Shell's environmentally destructive practices. Hymns were sung ("Dancing on the ruins of multinational corporations" and "the Diggers Song"), while Veggies served cake and tea. A handful of cops turned up, too, and seemed to enjoy the ceremony.

Images of the 'wedding' can be found at
